Customer success story: Lewis finds his perfect fit

Meet Lewis, a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) customer on a Disability Support Pension (DSP) who receives intensive support from his employment services team at Community Solutions.

Lewis is a bit of a rockstar to everyone who knows him. He’s a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) customer on a Disability Support Pension (DSP) and he receives intensive support from his employment services team at Community Solutions .

Lewis is a kind and gentle soul with an unmatched work ethic who puts his hand up for all sorts of volunteer and paid part-time work in his community and at the Herbert River Crushers rugby league club where he helps out at weekend games.

Lewis is an active volunteer, well respected around town, and just a lovely, beautiful guy

says his recruitment partner.

How the Community Solutions team helped Lewis

The goal for Lewis’s recruitment partners was to help him find a permanent part time role to balance out his other activities, but also give him the flexibility to keep the commitments he’s made. Lewis faces social and emotional challenges in his day-to-day life so the team were on the lookout for an inclusive and understanding facility manager, which is exactly what they found for Lewis at the Palms Aged Care nursing home.

Lewis is a natural who takes pride in his work and there’s no pressure on him here so he gets to work at his own pace, happily contributing, alongside another maintenance guy who has a lot to do and is genuinely appreciative of his work.

Lewis now works Mondays and Thursdays between 8am and 12pm, meeting his eight hour weekly benchmark.

The team helped me with my resume and I got a great reference from the football club. There was a bit of paperwork that they helped with too. The ladies in the office were really helpful. Now I’ve started the people are nice and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have this.

The Community Solutions team are really pleased with this result and wish Lewis the best as they continue to support him in his new role.

Lewis chats to residents and he’s always smiling and happy. He held his previous position for 10 years so it’s clear he likes to be busy and doing things to calm his mind.
