Youth employment program success for Taylor

There are lots of reasons why it can be a challenge for young people to find work. Just like Taylor who had experienced health setbacks as well as a low employment rate in the area she lived.

Fortunately, a new employment program is providing youth job seekers with the training, resources and support needed to increase their chances of getting a job.

Smart, Skilled and Hired (SSH)

When Taylor first visited CoAct Service Partner, CHESS Employment & Support Services, she was unsure about what the future would hold. As an unemployed young person, Taylor was eligible for the Smart, Skilled and Hired program that helps young people and school leavers become work ready. CHESS is able to deliver this service in the New South Wales Mid North Coast and Clarence Valley regions through its affiliation with CoAct.

Dedicated one-on-one youth coach

To help Taylor make a quick transition into the workforce, a dedicated youth coach was appointed to work with her. Taylor received one-on-one advice on the type of work available in the region and discussed the kind of work she’d like to do. Her confidence grew as she received assistance refreshing her resume and creating cover letters and job applications.

Opening the door to a career in hospitality

An important component of the Smart, Skilled and Hired program is the ongoing support and encouragement you receive as well as any training that can help you achieve your goals. With extensive experience in Hospitality, Taylor’s youth coach encouraged her to undertake a Barista course to further strengthen her employment opportunities.

Quick transition into a new job

Within a month of starting the SSH program, Taylor found work in a new café in her local town. She received further assistance from the SSH team through the provision of work clothing, footwear and everything she needed for a successful start in her new role.

CHESS has been so supportive and encouraging. They were able to identify areas of advancement and advise me on how to achieve my goals. Thank you CHESS, I really appreciate all your help.
