Thomas finds his way back to work he loves

When Thomas connected with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work, he knew he wanted to get back into work he cared about. Like many people, the years after COVID had been tough. Money was tight, his confidence had taken a hit, and he felt unsure about where to start.

Thomas had work experience and skills, but something was missing. He wanted more than just a job. He wanted work that felt right.

I knew I could work, I just didn’t know which way to turn,” Thomas said.

The right support at the right time

Thomas started working with Liam from BUSY at Work, who took the time to really get to know him. What Thomas needed most was someone to guide him and help him rebuild confidence, step by step.

Liam helped Thomas with online job applications and digital tasks that felt overwhelming at first. They looked at different roles, including warehouse work using Thomas’s forklift licence, but Thomas soon realised those jobs did not inspire him.

Through their conversations, Thomas shared something important. He had spent 15 years working in security and loved it. During COVID, his security licence expired, and he could not afford to renew it. That one gap kept him locked out of the work he enjoyed most.

Liam found a way forward. With funding support, Thomas enrolled in a two week security course and began training straight away. His confidence quickly grew as he worked towards something meaningful again.

I hadn’t felt that excited in years,” Thomas said. “It felt like I was finally heading back to where I belonged.

Liam also met Thomas in person to help renew his security licence, supporting him through the paperwork and fees. Even when the process became tricky, they kept going together.

He kept showing up and doing the work,” Liam said. “All he needed was the chance.

A new role and a brighter future

Six months after reconnecting with support, Thomas received his renewed security licence. It was a proud moment and a turning point.

Soon after, Thomas found a job in the security industry and started working in a role he genuinely enjoys. While he is still looking to increase his hours, he stays connected for weekly support and keeps building his skills.

Technology can still be challenging at times, but Thomas knows help is there when he needs it. Even when a job opportunity recently fell through, he did not give up.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come,” Thomas said. “I’m not stopping now.

Thomas’s story shows what can happen when determination meets the right support. With practical help, belief, and encouragement, he has reclaimed his confidence and is building a future he feels proud of.
