The world is a stage for Scott

Working for the Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts (HOTA) is a dream come true for Scott Worboys. The recently transformed arts centre is the hub of the Gold Coasts arts scene incorporating music, dance, comedy, theatre, cinema, photography and all other creative collectives under one roof.

The administration role at HOTA is Scott’s first job since leaving school and he was overjoyed to be given the opportunity to work in an industry that has always interested him. When Scott first met with a CoAct Service Partner, Scott’s Employment Consultant, Mel Pigram, took the time to get to know Scott, and discussed his strengths and goals to identify suitable opportunities for him.

Scott had mentioned his love of the Arts and that his brother had worked for the old Arts Centre” said Mel.  “As he had the contact name of the head of HR I decided to give them a call.

Mel reverse-marketed Scott and supported him through an interview process where he successfully gained employment – they actually created a position just for Scott!

With some significant health, physical and intellectual barriers Scott was seeking an employer that would be inclusive, supportive and provide a long-term role and HOTA has definitely done that.

Now, 7 months on Scott is happier, more confident and loves going to work.

Scott has made many friends and even attended last year’s Christmas Party. Mel offers Scott post-placement support and looks forward to their fortnightly appointments. “This job suits Scott’s personality to a T and I can see his confidence has grown”, said Mel.

She continued, “Scott is building skills, making his own money, meeting new people and coming out of his shell”.

Whether the world is a stage or the stage is a world, Scott is right at home at HOTA.
