The Can Van is on its way to help people living with disability find a job they love

This clever caravan is on a mission to help people living with disability get the right job sooner, connect job seekers with employers and support services and, most importantly, showcase and celebrate ability of all types.

Who’s invited?

People living with disability who are looking for help to find – and keep – a great job, as well as employers looking to develop diverse and inclusive workplaces. We also welcome the wider community to come and learn more about our services.

If you’re looking for work, stop by, grab a free coffee and have a chat to one of our friendly DES (Disability Employment Services) team members. We’ll be on hand to talk about your career goals, provide free career advice, and explain how we can support your job search every step of the way – whether you need to brainstorm career options, build your skills and confidence, apply for positions or practise your interview technique.

About the CanVan design

Dom Freestone is the artist who designed our CanVan. This is his story:

“I was at one stage a Ground Support Equipment Fitting Engineer with the Royal Australian Air Force. A diving accident in 2006 transformed my life and left me a quadriplegic.

After sustaining my SCI (Spinal Cord Injury), I found that my freedom and independence were severely affected. No longer could I live the life I had known or enjoy the things I had previously enjoyed; also gone was the future I had so clearly laid out for myself.

I completed my study at the University of Newcastle in 2017, obtaining a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design. 12 years after my accident, armed with a new skill set, I’m looking to contribute to causes that inspire me and drive positive change for my community.

I have reinvented myself and found new freedoms, freedoms I would have never known without my SCI. I feel like this artwork represents these freedoms and my emergence as a university graduate and graphic designer. I’m taking flight to the stars, surrounded by my creations and dreams.”
