Oliver’s story: from feeling overlooked to full-time work

Feeling overlooked and ready for a change

Oliver connected with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work feeling overlooked and frustrated. He had been applying for job after job without landing a single interview, and it was starting to wear him down. Oliver wanted a full-time role, ideally in warehousing, but low self-esteem, limited confidence and some social awkwardness were making the search even harder.

I felt like no one was even looking at my applications,” Oliver said.

The right support at the right time

Working closely with the BUSY At Work team, Oliver started taking things one step at a time. The first thing they looked at was his resume. It turned out some of the details noted were incorrect, so together they rewrote it and created a few different versions, each one tailored to the type of role he was applying for.

They also discovered Oliver had sometimes been sending the wrong resume for the wrong job. To fix this, they set aside dedicated time to apply for jobs together, making sure the right resume landed with the right application every time.

To help build his confidence, Oliver printed copies of his resume and applied for jobs in person. Those attempts did not lead to an offer straight away, but they helped him grow more resilient and self-assured. His team also helped him set up profile pages with major employers like Woolworths, Coles and Bunnings, so he felt more comfortable navigating online applications.

Looking ahead, Oliver and his team started planning towards a forklift licence to open up more opportunities in the warehousing sector, and a course was booked for him.

Every step we worked through together made me feel more ready,” Oliver said.

A new role and a brighter future

Before Oliver could even start the forklift course, he landed an interview, and it led to a full-time job offer, however there was one last hurdle. Oliver let his team know at the last minute that he needed workwear and did not have the funds to get to work on his first day. The team stepped in straight away with workwear and transport support, so Oliver could start his new role without added stress or worry. Oliver is now working full time and settling into his new role.

I’m proud of how far I’ve come,” Oliver said.

Oliver’s story shows what can happen when determination meets the right support. It is proof that with a bit of help at the right moment, people can move forward and build a future they feel proud of.
