Nathan’s story: A journey to an MR/HR driver opportunity

Facing barriers head-on

When Nathan first connected with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work Mount Isa, he had been actively looking for work for some time but faced ongoing challenges that made securing employment difficult. As a parent with significant responsibilities at home, including house-sitting for his son, balancing job search requirements with his personal commitments was not always easy.

During his appointments and 1:1 and group workshops, Nathan also shared that he experienced anxiety around applying for jobs, particularly after facing repeated rejection despite having previous experience as a driver. This had impacted his confidence, along with concerns about not being selected due to his personal circumstances and limitations.

Building confidence and momentum

With support from BUSY At Work, Nathan participated in a one-on-one anxiety workshop, where he was able to openly discuss his concerns. Together, he and his mentor, Bernadette, worked through strategies to manage anxiety, maintain a positive mindset, and build resilience when facing setbacks in the job search process. His resume was also reviewed and updated to better reflect his skills and experience within the driving industry.

Nathan remained motivated and proactive, requesting to be reverse marketed to companies advertising driver roles. While initial attempts did not result in immediate outcomes, these efforts helped establish connections with local employers.

The right opportunity comes through

Through ongoing engagement with employers, BUSY At Work connected with the HR Manager at a removalist company regarding vacancies. Following discussions about available roles, an opportunity for an MR/HR Driver position became available. Nathan was immediately identified as a strong candidate, and his updated resume was forwarded to the employer.

The employer responded quickly and contacted Nathan directly to arrange an interview. When Nathan advised he did not have transport to attend, BUSY At Work provided practical support by arranging transport to ensure he could attend the interview without barriers.

Following the interview, Nathan shared positive feedback, noting he was open and honest with the employer about his circumstances. Shortly after, he received an employment package to complete, progressing him to the next stage of the recruitment process.

A journey of determination

Nathan expressed his gratitude to BUSY At Work for their continued support, guidance, and the opportunities they have provided. With the assistance of the BUSY At Work Mount Isa site, he has been steadily building his pathway towards employment. By fulfilling his employment requirements and attending workshops to strengthen his confidence, skills and motivation, Nathan has made remarkable progress in his job-seeking journey. His commitment and determination have been phenomenal, and with the ongoing support of BUSY At Work, he has taken significant steps toward securing sustainable employment.

BUSY At Work is proud to have supported Nathan throughout his journey and looks forward to celebrating his continued success.
