Mason finds his pathway into meaningful work
Mason finds his pathway into meaningful work
At 25 years old, Mason had never been able to find employment, even though he held a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology. Living out of town without a car made it hard for him to reach workplaces or attend interviews. Over time, his confidence dropped, and he felt stuck in long-term unemployment.
I always dreamed of working in IT or administration, but it felt impossible because I couldn’t even get my foot in the door. Mason shared.
That changed when Mason connected with CoAct Connect + Community Solutions. He was introduced to the Maryborough Jobs Pathway program, designed to give people like him the support and encouragement they need to take their first step into work.

Building confidence and skills
Through the program, Mason started to see his strengths again. He took part in training that built up his confidence and gave him practical skills to prepare for real workplaces.
For the first time, he felt like he had people on his side who believed in his potential.
Community Solutions helped me see that I was capable, and they showed me the steps I could take to get where I wanted to be. Mason said.
This encouragement led to his very first role, a 19-week Business Traineeship with SkillCentred. In this traineeship, Mason got to put his studies into practice while gaining workplace experience that employers look for.
Taking the first big step
During his traineeship, Mason impressed his supervisors with his reliability, hard work, and positive attitude. He quickly became part of the team and showed that he had what it takes to succeed in a professional setting.
His placement was more than just a short-term opportunity, it was proof to himself that he had the skills and determination to make his dream career a reality.
The experience gave him exactly what he needed: confidence, skills, and the first line of work history on his resume.
Reaching his dream job
In September, Mason proudly started his first ongoing job with Home Assist Community Services, working in administration. It was the type of role he had always imagined for himself, and now, it was real.
I feel proud every day when I go to work,” Mason said. “It’s such a good feeling to know I’m doing what I studied for and what I always hoped to do.
His role allows him to use his IT knowledge, support the community, and continue learning and growing in his chosen field. For Mason, this is more than a job — it’s the start of a meaningful career.
The power of the right support
Mason’s journey shows how the right support at the right time can change everything. He went from long-term unemployment to a fulfilling career pathway in less than a year, and it all started with a chance to learn, grow, and believe in himself again.
Community Solutions is proud to have been part of Mason’s success. His story is a reminder that with guidance, training, and encouragement, anyone can take that first step toward work.
Mason’s journey is not just about one person finding a job, it’s about showing what’s possible for so many others facing the same challenges.
