Lauren’s story – Finding her way back
Lauren’s story – Finding her way back
When Lauren connected with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work Gold Coast, she was not feeling like herself. She had been out of work since late 2020 and had lost much of the confidence she once had. In the past, she had always found work quickly. This time felt different. She needed support, patience and someone who believed in her while she rebuilt belief in herself.
From the beginning, BUSY At Work gave Lauren space to talk honestly about where she was at. Her mentor listened without judgement and worked with her at a pace that felt manageable. Instead of pushing her, they encouraged her and helped her explore what might be possible next.
I walked in with very little confidence,” Lauren said. “But I was encouraged along the way.

A small idea that led to something big
Lauren is 35 and originally from England. She moved to Australia in 2011 and built a strong career across hospitality, administration and project management. Her last role was as a mental health peer worker, supporting mums in hospital who were experiencing post-natal depression. She also ran her own business helping people with resumes and job applications.
Despite her strong background, personal challenges and struggles with her mental health made it hard to return to work. She wanted purpose again. She wanted to enjoy what she did and feel like she was making a difference.
Lauren had thought about going back into mental health. At the same time, she was curious about something completely different: security. It felt like a big shift, and she was not sure it was achievable.
Her mentor remembered that small comment made about security and let Lauren know there was an upcoming course she could enrol in. BUSY At Work supported her to get started.
I thought, I might as well try and see what happens. Lauren said
That one decision opened a new door.
Growing in confidence and loving the role
The training was intense and challenging at first. It pushed Lauren outside her comfort zone. But with support from BUSY At Work and encouragement from her supervisor, she stayed the course.
Soon, interviews were lined up. Lauren took the opportunity with both hands.
Now she works in safety and security, and she truly enjoys it.
A job for me isn’t just about money,” Lauren said. “It’s about doing something I enjoy, and I get to help people by keeping them safe.
Her new role has given her a fresh sense of purpose. Her confidence has grown, she is meeting new people, and she feels proud to be part of a team again. Most of all, she feels like she belongs.
Lauren’s story shows that with the right support and a willingness to try something new; it is possible to find your way back and build a future you are excited about. Click here to contact us and find out how we can help.
