Joel gets back on track

After dealing with long-term unemployment, Joel’s confidence had taken a hit, but he was enthusiastic about rejoining the workforce and committed to making the changes necessary to make that happen.

As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and ongoing jobactive job seeker, Joel had to overcome some personal barriers before being able to commit to re-entering the workforce.

But with the specialised help of CoAct Service Partner, Community Solutions Rockhampton, Joel has been able to overcome his confidence issues, upgrade his skill set, and ultimately find full-time employment with Frasers Livestock Transport.

Working with employers to get job seekers into work

When Frasers Livestock Transport – a family owned business specialising in livestock transport – contacted Community Solutions about finding a candidate for their vacant position, the team quickly noticed that Joel already had a number of qualifications that matched the job description.

As part of the JobActive service, Community Solutions were able to provide Joel with financial assistance to upgrade his heavy vehicle licence from the HR licence (heavy rigid) he had held for a number of years to an MC licence (multi combination) to make him the ideal candidate for the available job..

Joel lands a job he loves

Joel is enjoying his new full-time position as a Heavy Duty Yardsman with Frasers Livestock Transport and Owner/Manager, Warwick Fraser says he is really pleased with his new hire

We are so happy with Joel’s work ethic and he is a great fit for our team. The partnership with Community Solutions has worked well too and we won’t hesitate to source candidates this way in the future.

Joel remains committed to his full-time employment and is loving being financially independent again. The support from Community Solutions to help Joel gain his MC licence means he’ll have the chance to build a career with his current employer and explore new opportunities in the future.

Community Solutions will continue to provide Joel with mentoring and support throughout the first six months of employment to make sure his transition into work is a smooth one.
