Jaycom finds steady support in Beenleigh

When Jaycom connected with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work Beenleigh in mid 2025, he was facing serious barriers to employment. He was living with severe depression and anxiety, which had made it hard to stay on track. Even so, Jaycom was clear about one thing. He wanted a career in traffic control.

He shared that he had not always had steady support in his life. In the past, he found it hard to ask for help with his mental health, but this time, he was ready to try.

I kept calling and showing up because I wanted support. Jaycom said. “I just needed someone to actually help.

A fresh start and a clear plan

Before returning to Beenleigh, Jaycom had been living in Mackay and working on a farm. While the job kept him busy, the isolation made his mental health worse. During that time, he went through a very dark period. After that, he made the brave decision to return to Beenleigh and seek mental health support on his own.

When he met his mentor Kristyn, she understood how important it was to provide steady and caring support and she made sure Jaycom felt heard. Through regular appointments and open conversations, they talked about his long-term goal of working in traffic control and created a clear plan to get there.

Jaycom knew what he wanted,” Kristyn said. “He just needed someone to walk alongside him and help him take the right steps.

From training to a job in traffic control

Kristyn organised for Jaycom to complete his White Card. Soon after, he enrolled in a traffic control course and passed it. While he was training, Jaycom stayed active in his job search and did not give up.

Before long, he secured a role in the industry he had been working towards. To help him start without stress, Kristyn supported him with the purchase of the required PPE and helped with fuel costs so he could travel to work reliably.

Jaycom later came into the office to personally say thank you. During that visit, he and Kristyn completed a workshop focused on managing anxiety in high stress situations. Jaycom said it made a big difference to how he felt at work.

My life has purpose again,” Jaycom shared. “You changed my future.

Today, Jaycom is thriving in his new career. He is building confidence, stability and a routine that supports his wellbeing. His story shows the power of steady encouragement, practical support and having someone who truly listens. Even after the hardest moments, it is possible to rebuild and move forward.
