IMPACT helps steer Callan down the perfect track into employment
IMPACT helps steer Callan down the perfect track into employment
With previous experience in the labouring industry, Callan, an ambitious and determined customer wanted to put his skills and knowledge to use in the rail sector. Having met with the hiring manager at local rail company, the manager was impressed with Callan’s enthusiasm, however Callan did not have necessary certificates and qualifications to be employed with the company.
Tailored support to suit Callan’s needs
Determined to gain employment in this sector, Callan welcomed the services and support of IMPACT. When Callan first approached IMPACT, he was living in a men’s shelter and had little financial independence and necessary resources to gain certificates and qualifications for employment in the rail industry. Angela, Employment Support Coordinator at IMPACT worked closely with Callan to establish what his needs and long-term goals were and how IMPACT could best help him fulfil these to the highest standard possible.
Stabilising the factors that can hinder job search success
As Callan did not have stable accommodation, IMPACT provided temporary accommodation to allow Callan to complete-his-face to face practical assessment, which also meant he had a better studying environment.
An extra helping hand: resources and financial support
Angela and the team at IMPACT identified areas where they could help Callan progress in his job search. The first call of action was to assist Callan in gaining certificates and qualifications for the role. To help him do this, IMPACT supplied funding through the Australian Government’s Employment Fund to set Callan up to study the seven core units and modules he needed to gain his Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure.
This financial assistance also included providing travel support for Callan to travel to Ipswich as a required part of his studies, as well as protective clothing necessary for the job. With ongoing support and reassurance from IMPACT, Callan was kept motivated and directed along the right pathway to help him complete his core units of study.
Angela said she was so proud of Callan and his determination to succeed. She comments –
For Callan, it was extremely difficult not to have a stable income and accommodation whilst studying, however he was willing to work hard to help improve his current situation, which was heart-warming to see
On track to success
Callan has now successfully completed his training and has gained qualifications and his Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure. Since completion, CQ Resources have employed Callan and have noted that Callan is an “A+ worker”, a great fit for the company and is an enthusiastic employee who is always willing to learn.
Now with stable employment and more financially independent, Callan has moved out of the men’s shelter into his own accommodation and is now saving for a car.
