Dylan’s fresh start in Aitkenvale

When Dylan first linked in with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work Aitkenvale, he was ready for a steady job again. He had been unemployed for some time which had been tough. He tried a few casual jobs along the way, hoping one would turn into something more secure, but nothing really stuck.

Even with the knocks, Dylan did not give up. He knew what kind of work he wanted to do and why it mattered to him. His goal was to get back into the employment services industry, because he wanted to support people who were doing it hard and help them take their next steps.

I just wanted something stable, and I wanted to be in a job where I could help people. Dylan said.

Taking small steps with strong support

From the beginning, Dylan’s mentor Layla could see that he had a real drive to support others. In their appointments, Dylan spoke clearly about where he wanted to go. He did not just say he wanted work. He talked about wanting the right work, in a role where he could make a difference.

Together, Dylan and Layla made a plan and kept it moving. Dylan stayed active and kept applying for jobs, even when it felt slow. He worked on staying motivated and showing up prepared for each appointment. He listened to advice, asked questions, and took on feedback. Layla supported him with practical guidance and encouragement, especially on the days when things felt frustrating.

Dylan kept showing up and doing the work, even when it was hard. Layla said. He was clear about his goal, and he stayed focused.

It was not just about sending in applications. It was about building confidence, staying organised, and getting ready for the kind of role Dylan wanted. Layla worked closely with Dylan to keep him on track and help him take the next right step, one step at a time.

A new role, new confidence, and helping others

All that effort paid off. With Layla’s support, Dylan secured an interview with BUSY At Work and walked in ready. He did well and made a strong impression. Shortly after, Dylan was offered a position as a Mentor, and he officially started work in June.

Since then, Dylan has been thriving. He has been supporting customers into employment and helping them face barriers that can make finding a job feel out of reach. He understands what it feels like to be stuck, and that helps him connect with people in a real way. Instead of judging, Dylan listens. Instead of rushing, he helps people build a plan they can actually follow.

Dylan has also been supported in practical ways. This included help with work clothing and driving lessons, which made it easier for him to feel confident and job-ready.

It feels good to tell someone, ‘I get it,’ and then help them find a way through. Dylan said. Now I get to be the person I needed back then.

Today, Dylan stands out for his strong work ethic, his passion for helping others, and his commitment to learning. He keeps building his skills, and he takes pride in doing his job well.

Most of all, he uses his own story to remind others that change is possible.

Dylan’s journey shows what can happen when someone has determination and the right support around them. It is a good news story for Dylan, and it is also great news for the customers he now helps every day at BUSY At Work Aitkenvale.
