Corina’s story: a licence to thrive
Corina is a mum who’s been part of CoAct Connect + Five Bridges since 2023. Like many parents, she found it hard to juggle raising kids and keeping steady work. She picked up casual jobs where she could, but without transport and with family commitments, holding long-term work wasn’t easy.
Recently, Corina started casual work with her local council. She enjoyed it, but again, transport made it tricky to take on more hours. For more than a year, Corina worked closely with her mentor, Carmen, with one big goal in mind—getting her driver’s licence. Having her licence would give her independence and open more job opportunities.

Living in a remote community made that goal tough. The nearest transport offices were far away in Blackwater and Rockhampton and organising a way to get there was a major barrier.
That all changed when Woorabinda hosted a Government Services Round-Up. For two days, services came into town, including the Department of Transport and Main Roads. For Corina, this was a golden chance. She borrowed a friend’s car, sat the test—and passed! With her employment provider on-site to cover the cost, nothing held her back.
“I was so nervous and shaking during the test. I’m just so happy I passed and have my licence now. Thank you, Carmen, for helping me” Corina said
Now, with her licence in hand, Corina can drive council vehicles at work, take on more hours, and apply for new roles where a licence is a must. It’s a huge step towards independence and supporting her family.
She couldn’t stop smiling when she got her licence. She and a friend, who also passed, proudly showed them off to each other.
