Clint’s story: Finding the will to change

When Clint first connected with CoAct Connect + BUSY At Work Southport, life felt uncertain and overwhelming. He knew he wanted things to be different, but staying consistent was hard and the path forward was not clear.

At the time, he was dealing with personal challenges that made everyday choices difficult. Even so, he kept showing up for honest conversations with his mentor and slowly began to see that change was possible.

I knew I could not keep living the same way,” he shared. “I had to start taking responsibility for myself.

Steady support through every setback

With steady encouragement from his mentor, he began taking small but important steps forward. Together, they focused on progress rather than perfection.

With support, he made the brave decision to step away from his usual environment and focus fully on getting back on track. He stayed in touch throughout this time, sharing updates and letting his mentor know how he was going. Knowing someone believed in him and was proud of the effort he was making helped keep him motivated.

When he experienced a setback and briefly stepped away, his mentor reminded him that progress is not always a straight line and that real change has to come from within.

He needed to know that setbacks do not define him,” his mentor said. “What mattered was his willingness to keep trying.

That message helped him recommit and keep moving forward.

A fresh start and new opportunities

Today, he is living in a monitored transitional home and continues to focus on building stability. He attends regular counselling sessions, connects with community supports, and gives back by volunteering five hours a week at a local homelessness service.

With help from his mentor, he also secured essential identification documents, opening the door to work. He has now been offered a role at Woolworths as a Customer Service Assistant and Trolley Collector, which will begin once final paperwork is complete.

I am proud of how far I have come,” he said. “I am taking things one day at a time.

His journey shows that change does not have to be perfect to be real. With determination and the right support, small steps can lead to a stronger future and a fresh start.
