Ben takes a big step forward
Ben’s journey to employment has not been easy. When he first connected with CoAct Connect + Community Solutions Maryborough for support, he was facing a range of serious challenges. These included limited transport, unstable housing, health and wellbeing concerns, and the impact of trauma, grief and personal crisis. All of this made it hard for Ben to focus on finding and keeping a job.
His confidence and self-esteem had taken a hit. Even small things like presentation and believing in himself felt difficult at times. But even with these barriers, Ben did not give up.
I knew I wanted things to change,” Ben said. I just needed help to get there.

Steady support and small wins
With steady, person centred support from Community Solutions, Ben stayed engaged and kept working towards his goals. The focus was not just on finding a job, but on building strong foundations first.
Support included practical help to manage transport and other day to day barriers. Ben also received help with job searching, preparing for interviews, and improving his presentation. Step by step, he began to rebuild his confidence. He was encouraged to keep going, even when there were setbacks.
Ben kept showing up, even on the hard days,” a staff member shared. “That determination made a real difference.
Along the way, Ben began to see his own strengths again. He started to believe that employment was possible.
More than just a job
Through resilience and ongoing support, Ben successfully secured employment. This was a major milestone in his journey.
But this outcome is about more than a job. It represents stability, routine and a fresh sense of purpose. Since starting work, Ben’s confidence has grown. He feels more independent and more hopeful about the future.
I feel like I’m getting back on track. Ben said.
Ben’s story shows how important holistic, strengths-based support can be. When someone is given the right help and encouragement, even complex barriers can be overcome. With persistence and belief, real change is possible.
