Aged care careers: Higher wages and more opportunities in 2025

If you work in aged care or are thinking about joining the aged care industry, you’ll soon see better pay in 2025! The Australian Government has approved wage increases to make sure aged care workers are paid fairly for their important work.

Many people working in aged care will get a pay boost, including:

• Personal care workers
• Home care workers
• Assistants in nursing
• Lifestyle and activities workers
• Cleaning, kitchen, and maintenance staff

From 1 January 2025, wages will go up by 2.3% to 13.5% depending on the job. A second increase will happen on 1 October 2025 for some workers. This is on top of the 15% pay rise given in 2023. Read more about the wage increase here.

How is this funded?

The government is providing extra funding to aged care providers to help cover the cost of these increases. However, privately funded retirement villages won’t be included in this support.
